HistoryThe 1977 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race is remembered for a classic under-dog story. Eugino Matienzo, Tom Knowling and Phil Francis, from Clewiston in Florida, planned to enter the legendary race but lacked sponsorship support. Local restaurateur Tony Toulis, owner of the Glades Restaurant and lounge 'Tony's Back Door' provided support for the team to compete. On March 19, 1977 at Sebring, the car started from 43rd spot on the grid and finished 11th over all. The team was ecstatic with the finish. The only make of car which beat the #78 Camaro was Porsche taking the top 10 positions. The 8 year-old Camaro had beaten the Ferraris, the Mustangs, and even a few of the mighty Porsches. It was the first American-made car across the finish line out of 72 cars which started the race. A huge accomplishment for a privateer team. The Scalextric ModelIdeal to race against all of the American Muscle car range including Corvette Stingray, Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang and Ford Torino cars the #78 Camaro is ready for more giant killing exploits! This detailed car features adjustable Magnatraction™ positions and easy change pick-ups. Regular Price: $49.99 On Sale For: $34.99 |
