History

In 1958 the Mini rapidly took shape around Alec Issigonis's concept. Leaps of engineering imagination were performed including the placement of the gearbox under the engine, front-wheel drive with the power unit mounted transversely, and rubber cone suspension designed by rubber expert Alex Moulton.

The Mini soon became a car beloved by the ordinary man as well as the racing world. Although, as a race car, the Mini was not the quickest, in terms of straight-line speed, on the track it was certainly the car that would gain a big advantage through twisty parts of a circuit or rally stage.

The Mini Cooper’s race pedigree grew and it enjoyed its third Monte Carlo rally win in 1967.

The Scalextric Model

This model is the 1967 Monte Carlo winner driven by Rauno Aaltonen. The famous ‘LBL 6D’ registration Mini is an excellent companion to race against the Ford Escort MK1 from the Scalextric range.

The car features working lights fitted front and rear, Magnatraction™ and easy change pick-ups.
